The Candlestick Basket is an antique reproduction patterned after a basket commonly found hanging on the walls of Colonial keeping rooms. Candles, being the major source of lighting, needed to be stored close at hand yet out of the way. The Candlestick Basket was the perfect solution then and a winsome addition to your primitive décor now.
We’ll follow the same simple lines that Colonial makers used, letting the reed find its shape as we go. There’s something grounding about weaving a basket that generations before us relied on — and something joyful about giving it new life in your own home.
The basket measures 3" x 5" at the base and 9.5" tall, and the pattern gives it that classic hourglass curve as you weave. Some folks keep it tight and traditional; others let it open up into a vase shape. There’s no wrong way — just follow the reed and see where it wants to go.
